To maximise the performance of your candle and ensure a safe burn, please follow these candle care instructions.

Burn Memory

The first burn - and each subsequent burn - should last as long as it takes to reach the edge of the vessel. This will provide maximum fragrance, prevent tunnelling, and ensure the maximum burn time from your candle.

Burn Time

We recommend you burn your candles for a maximum of 4 hours at a time. Candles must be burnt on a heat resistant surface.

Trim Your Wicks

Trim your wick to a maximum of 5mm before re-lighting your candle. This will ensure the longest possible candle life, minimise soot, and remove any mushrooming of the wick that remains from previous burns. Be careful not to over trim your wick otherwise you risk not being able to re-light your candle. If the flame appears too big, trim your wick.

How to Handle Soot

If you do not trim the wick regularly or your candle is left to burn too long, you may notice a mushroom of carbon on the end of the wick. This may cause soot to collect on the inside of the container. If this happens, extinguish your candle, wait for it to cool, and wipe off the carbon marks with a clean damp cloth.

How to Extinguish Your Candle

Try to avoid blowing out your candle. The best way to extinguish a candle is with a snuffer, or to dip the wick into the melted wax and then straighten the wick to prevent smoking (and avoid hot wax splatter). Do not put the candle out by placing the lid on the jar.

How to Store Your Candle

Candles are sensitive to temperature and light. Avoid your candle cracking and melting by storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, dust, and fluorescent lighting. Scented candles look great stored under a glass cloche, which also protects from dust.

How to Clean Your Candle

You can remove dust and fingerprints from a candle by gently rubbing the surface with a piece of nylon or a soft cloth. The cloth can be dry or slightly dampened with water.

Don’t Burn All The Way Down

Stop burning candles when there is 1cm of wax remaining to avoid. Failure to stop at this point could cause the glass to crack or even explode from overheating.
