The quiet crackle, bright dancing flame, the scent of heavenly essential oils and soy wax, the warm glow - candles bring some magic to our physical senses as they soothe the soul.

As soon as we light a candle, we feel calmed by the pleasant predictability of the outcome. There’s an association with relaxation, sacredness, celebration or romance. It’s a humble pleasure that is exponentially abundant as our senses register - there is goodness here. 

Candles help us create a beautiful space for ourselves or to share with others, whether for a lively festivity or a quiet space for rest or self-care. The simplicity of a good candle packs a punch in how it can elevate and transform a space. 

A candle’s flame symbolises the inner spark of our truest essence and source of our inner glow. Although the flame is bright, the light it casts is soft - no artificiality can replicate that glow. It is both alive and vibrant, soft and gentle, as are we. 

The small decision to light a candle is a moment of intent. Striking a match and touching it to the wick offers a satisfying hiss as we commence the span of time in which the candle shares its magic. It’s a moment to appreciate, and we can add an intention if we wish.  It can be as simple as a quick decision to bring more light, warmth and beautiful aroma to our space, or part of a more conscious ritual.

How to get the most out of your candle

  • Allow it to burn and infuse your surroundings, ideally for a minimum of one hour to bring the fullness of the aromatherapy and other sensory benefits to your space.

  • Set an intention as you light the candle, especially if you’ll be using it for meditation or a creative or personal purpose. This can take just a moment or you can spend longer in a more conscious connection with your intention.

  • When it’s time to extinguish, you could offer a flash of gratitude for what the candle has brought you and your environment, through to saying a conscious ‘thank you’ to the flame at the end of a meditative or self-care experience.
